## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) STUDENT PILOT WAS PRACTICING SIMULATED ENGINE-OUT MANEUVERS. WHEN HE APPLIED POWER TO TERMINATE THE MANEUVER THE ENGINE SPUTTERED AND QUIT. AT THE TIME, THE TEMPERATURE REPORTED AT THE NEAREST AIRPORT (CBF) WAS -10 C. THE PILOT CONTINUED THE EMERGENCY DESCENT AND LANDED IN A FIELD WITH NO DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT OR INJURY TO THE PILOT. AS A RESULT OF THIS INCIDENT, THE FLIGHT SCHOOL MANAGEMENT REVIEWED COLD WEATHER OPERATIONS AND MINIMUM ALTITUDES FOR LOSS OF POWER SCENARIOS WITH ALL INSTRUCTORS AND STUDENTS. THE SCHOOL HAS A 500' AGL SIMULATED ENGINE-OUT LIMITATION. SOLO STUDENT ENGINE-OUT SCENARIOS ARE NOT AUTHORIZED TRAINING. THIS INCIDENT ^PRIVACY DATA O^ IS CLOSED OUT WITH THIS REPORT.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
