## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) THE PILOT WAS ATTEMPTING A LANDING ON RWY 8L AT SPIRIT OF SAINT LOUIS AIRPORT (SUS) ON 2-16-07 AT 1712. THE WINDS WERE CROSSWIND TO THE RUNWAY AT 170 DEGREES AT 12 KNOTS GUSTING TO 18 KNOTS. UPON LANDING, THE PILOT FAILED TO MAINTAIN DIRECTIONAL CONTROL OF HIS AIRPLANE DOWN THE CENTER OF THE RUNWAY, RESULTING IN THE AIRPLANE DRIFTING OFF THE SIDE OF THE RUNWAY INTO A SNOW BANK. THE AIRCRAFT SUSTAINED DAMAGE TO THE LEFT WINGTIP, WING SPAR, AND PROPELLER.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CHI07CA074](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CHI07CA074), Feb 16, 2007: Cessna 172S (N270JA), St. Louis, MO, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's inadequate compensation for the wind conditions and failure to maintain directional control. Factors were the gusting crosswind conditions and the snow covered ground.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
