## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ACCORDING TO THE PILOT, HE WAS CONDUCTING HIGH SPEED TAXI CHECKS WHEN THE AIRPLANE INADVERTENTLY BECAME AIRBORNE. THE PILOT ^PRIVACY DA^ STATED HE CONTINUED THE TAKEOFF TO AVOID GOING OFF THE END OF THE RUNWAY. HE FLEW THE AIRPLANE AROUND THE TRAFFIC PATTERN. WHILE ON THE APPROACH HE SAID THERE WAS ANOTHER AIRPLANE ON THE RUNWAY. THIS PROMPTED HIM TO MAKE A GO-AROUND. DURING THE GO-AROUND THE ENGINE STARTED MISSING AND THEN QUIT ALTOGETHER. HE SAID HE CHECKED THE FUEL SHUTOFF VALVE, MIXTURE AND IGNITION WITH NO EFFECT. WHILE ATTEMPTING AN EMERGENCY LANDING, THE AIRPLANE STRUCK A MOUND OF DIRT BESIDE THE RUNWAY. IT IS WORTH NOTING THAT DURING A SUBSEQUENT TELECON INTERVIEW WITH FAA INSPECTORS ^PRIVACY DATA OMITT^, THE PILOT ^PRIVACY DA^ KNEW WHAT THE ROTATION SPEED OF THE AIRCRAFT WAS (50 MPH). HE FURTHER STATED THIS WAS ABOUT THE SPEED AT WHICH THE AIRCRAFT WAS LIFTED OFF.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CHI07CA085](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CHI07CA085), Mar 10, 2007: Polcyn Long-EZE (N75FP), St. Charles, MO, substantial damage. Probable cause: A loss of engine power for undetermined reasons. A factor in the accident was the inadvertent lift-off that occurred during the high speed taxi checks.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
