## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) PILOT WAS ON HIS SECOND GLIDER FLIGHT OF THE DAY AND WAS RETURNING TO THE AIRPORT. HE DEPLOYED HIS SPOILERS THEN ENCOUNTERED SOME SINK ON HIS BASE LEG AND DID NOT RETRACT HIS SPOILERS FAST ENOUGH. HE LANDED HARD AND SHORT OF THE RUNWAY, BUT ON AIRPORT PROPERTY.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB LAX07CA104](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/LAX07CA104), Mar 11, 2007: Schleicher ASW-27B (N273W), Williams, CA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's misjudged distance/altitude and delay in retracting the spoilers that led to an undershoot, which resulted in a collision with terrain.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
