## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON MARCH 15, 2007, THE PRIVATE PILOT ^PRIVACY DATA ^ LEFT OPA LOCKA AIRPORT (OPF) APPROX 1500 IN R-44 N196DM WITH ONE PAX ON BOARD TO VIEW HIS PROPERTY LOCATED AT ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED. WHILE TURNING TO RETURN TO OPA LOCKA, PILOT REPORTED THAT HE LOST POWER AND ATTEMPTED TO AUTOROTATE IN EMPTY FIELD AND LANDED HARD, TEARING OFF TAIL ROTOR. LOCATION OF VACANT FIELD IS ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ . PILOT AND PASSENGER EVACUATED HELICOPTER UNINJURED.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB MIA07LA059](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/MIA07LA059), Mar 15, 2007: Robinson R-44-II (N196DM), Miami, FL, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain sufficient rotor rpm during an autorotative landing, which resulted in a hard landing and separation of the tailboom.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
