## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) THE AIRCRAFT DEPARTED TULARE AIRPORT (TLR) ENROUTE TO EXETER AIRPORT (O63). AFTER LEVELING OFF AT 900 FEET MSL, THE PILOT NOTED A POWER LOSS AND ROUGHNESS WITH THE ENGINE. THE PILOT STATED SHE APPLIED CARBURETOR HEAT AND SWITCHED FUEL TANKS, WHICH DID NOT HELP WITH THE ENGINE SITUATION. AN EMERGENCY LANDING IN A BARLEY FIELD WAS DECIDED, WHICH CONTAINED TALL WET GRASS. AT TOUCHDOWN, THE AIRCRAFT TRAVELED APPROXIMATELY 35 YARDS BEFORE NOSING OVER CAUSING SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE TO THE VERTICAL STABILIZER AND RUDDER FLIGHT CONTROL.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB SEA07CA085](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/SEA07CA085), Mar 23, 2007: Piper PA-18 (N2124N), Tulare, CA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The loss of engine power for an undetermined reason. A contributing factor was the lack of suitable terrain for the forced landing.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
