## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) THE AIRCRAFT DEPARTED REID HILLVIEW AIRPORT (RHV) DIRECT TO SOUTH COUNTY AIRPORT (B16). AFTER AN EXTENDED DESCENT INTO THE PATTERN AT SOUTH COUNTY AIRPORT, THE PILOT INITIATED A TURN TO BASE AND ATTEMPTED TO APPLY POWER. THE ENGINE WAS NOT RESPONSIVE, THE PILOT THEN INITIATED AN EMERGENCY OFF FIELD LANDING THAT RESULTED IN AN INTENTIONAL GROUND LOOP TO AVOID HITTING A FENCE. THE GROUND LOOP MANEUVER DAMAGED THE LANDING GEAR MOUNTING STRUCTURE INBOARD OF THE LOWER WING MOUNT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB SEA07CA099](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/SEA07CA099), Apr 7, 2007: Barnett MA-5 Charger (N20HD), San Martin, CA, substantial damage. Probable cause: Carburetor icing conditions which resulted in a loss of engine power during the base turn to final approach. The pilot's inadequate preflight planning/preparation for the flight was a factor.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
