## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) WEATHER AT THE TIME OF THE ACCIDENT WAS LOW OVERCAST AND SNOW WITH WINDS 090@11G26. THE TAKEOFF ROLL ON RUNWAY 16 WAS NORMAL UNTIL AT A SPEED OF APPROXIMATELY 70-75 KTS, WHEN THE LEFT ENGINE BEGAN TO SURGE. THE PILOT CONFIRMED THE SURGING ENGINE WAS THE LEFT ENGINE BY USE OF ENGINE INSTRUMENTS. THE PILOT ATTEMPTED TO REGAIN CONTROL OF THE ENGINE AND DIRECTIONAL CONTROL OF THE AIRCRAFT BY RETARDING THE LEFT ENGINE POWER LEVER SLIGHTLY, (1 INCH). THE LEFT ENGINE CONTINUED TO SURGE AND DIRECTIONAL CONTROL OF THE AIRCRAFT WAS COMPROMISED. AN ABORT OF THE TAKEOFF WAS INITIATED. DURING THE ABORT OF THE TAKEOFF, THE AIRCRAFT DRIFTED LEFT UNTIL THE LEFT MAIN GEAR DEPARTED THE RUNWAY SINKING IN THE SOFT GROUND CAUSING FURTHER DEVIATION TO THE LEFT UNTIL ALL GEAR WERE OFF THE RUNWAY. THE AIRCRAFT IMPACTED A RUNWAY SIGN CAUSING THE NOSE GEAR TO COLLAPSE BEFORE THE AIRCRAFT CAME TO REST. THERE WAS NO INJURIES.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

Probable cause: Partial failure of the left engine propeller governor during the takeoff ground roll. Factors included that directional control was not possible by the pilot which subsequently led to a collision…

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
