## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) AIRCRAFT DEPARTED EL MONTE, CA (EMT) ENROUTE TO STOCKTON, CA(SCK). THE 1975 CESSNA 172 RAN OUT OF GAS, AND LANDED 100 FEET SHORT OF THE RUNWAY 29LR AT CALIFORNIA'S STOCKTON METROPOLITAN AIRPORT. THE SINGLE-ENGINE AIRPLANE LANDED ON THE WRONG SIDE OF THE BLAST FENCE, AND SHORT OF THE RUNWAY ON ITS FINAL APPROACH AROUND 1200 LOCAL TIME. THE PILOT, IDENTIFIED AS A 69 YEAR OLD MAN, REPORTED HE WAS OUT OF FUEL BEFORE CRASHING JUST SHORT OF THE RUNWAY, IN A GRASSY AREA ABOUT 50 TO 60 FEET AWAY FROM STATE ROUTE 99. THE PLANE SUSTAINED CONSIDERABLE DAMAGE, BUT THE PILOT WAS ABLE TO WALK AWAY. EMERGENCY CREWS RESPONDED IMMEDIATELY AND PROVIDED FIRST AID TO THE DOWNED PILOT, TRANSPORTING HIM TO A LOCAL HOSPITAL WITH CUTS AND BRUISES. AIRPORT OFFICIALS SAID THE PILOT ALSO COMPLAINED OF SOME BACK PAIN.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB LAX07CA125](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/LAX07CA125), Apr 12, 2007: Cessna 172M (N9685Q), Stockton, CA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The loss of engine power due to fuel exhaustion resulting from the pilot's inaccurate fuel consumption calculations and failure to refuel while en route.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
