## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) EYEWITNESSES REPORTED THEY SAW THE AIRCRAFT FLYING AT A LOW ALTITUDE AND NOTED THE ENGINE WAS CUTTING IN AND OUT. THE ENSUING INVESTIGATION REVEALED THE AIRPLANE ATTEMPTED AN EMERGENCY LANDING IN A FIELD. HOWEVER, THE AIRPLANE LANDED SHORT OF THE FIELD AND IMPACTED A GULLEY. THE RESULTING IMPACT CAUSED THE AIRCRAFT TO FLIP UPSIDE DOWN AND IGNITED A FIRE WHICH CONSUMED THE AIRCRAFT EXCEPT FOR APPROXIMATELY FOUR FEET OF THE NOSE CONE. A DETERMINATION OF THE CAUSE FOR THE LOSS OF POWER COULD NOT BE MADE DUE TO THE FIRE. NOTE: PILOT HOURS IN MAKE/MODEL AND LAST 90 DAYS COULD NOT BE DETERMINED.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CHI07LA115](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CHI07LA115), Apr 23, 2007: Bird Seawind 3000 (N40SW), Knox City, MO, destroyed, 2 fatal. Probable cause: The loss of engine power for an undetermined reason. Contributing to the accident was the unsuitable terrain that was encountered by the pilot during the forced landing.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
