## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) THIS PILOT DECIDED TO LAND ON THE UPHILL RUNWAY EVEN THOUGH THERE WAS A QUARTERING TAIL WIND. THE AIRPLANE STALLED APPROXIMATELY THREE FEET ABOVE THE RUNWAY, BOUNCED, VEERED LEFT, WING HIT RUNWAY SIGN, AND AIRPLANE FLIPPED UPSIDE DOWN. PILOT STATED THAT WHEN HE GOT DOWN CLOSE TO THE RUNWAY HIS AIRSPEED SEEMED TO BE FASTER THAN IT REALLY WAS. HE SAID HE THOUGHT HE WAS GOING TOO FAST, SO HE PULLED POWER, RAISED THE NOSE, AND THEN STALLED OUT. HE STATED THAT HE THINKS THE TAIL WIND, HIGH ALTITIDE, AND WARM TEMPERATURE CAUSED HIM TO STALL BEFORE HE WAS READY. HE STATED THAT IN HINDSIGHT, HE SHOULD HAVE LANDED WITH THE HIGHER GROUND SPEED.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB LAX07CA138](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/LAX07CA138), Apr 28, 2007: Tolsma Tony G Avid Magnum (N211RT), Jackpot, NV, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's inadequate weather evaluation, inadequate compensation for the wind conditions, and decision to land with a gusty, quartering tailwind. Also causal was the pilot's misjudged landing flare…

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
