## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON APRIL 30, 2007, AT 1735 CENTRAL DAYLIGHT TIME, A BEECH S35, N8820M, SUSTAINED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE DURING A FORCED LANDING IN A CORN FIELD AFTER A LOSS OF ENGINE POWER NEAR NORTH CENTRAL MISSOURI REGIONAL AIRPORT (MO8), BROOKFIELD, MISSOURI. THE COMMERCIAL PILOT, THE ONLY OCCUPANT, WAS NOT INJURED. THE CYLINDER THROUGH BOLTS AND STUDS WERE BROKEN AND/OR HAD NUTS MISSING CAUSING NUMBER 4 CYLINDER TO SEPARATE FROM THE ENGINE CRANKCASE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CHI07LA127](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CHI07LA127), Apr 30, 2007: Beech S35 (N8820M), Brookfield, MO, substantial damage. Probable cause: Improper maintenance by maintenance personnel by not properly torquing cylinder thru-bolts. The loose stud nuts which resulted in the separation of the cylinder and the crop and ditch were factors.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
