## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) THE PILOT TOOK OFF FROM HAYWARD AIRPORT FOR A ROUTINE TRAFFIC WATCH FLIGHT. APPROX 2 HOURS INTO THE FLIGHT OVER HIGHWAY 4 IN CONCORD/PITTSBURG CA THE AIRCRAFT DEVELOPED A ROUGH ENGINE. ENROUTE TO CONCORD AIRPORT THE AIRCRAFT STARTED TO LOSE OIL PRESSURE AND SMOKE WAS SEEN COMING FROM THE TAIL OF THE AIRCRAFT. THE PILOT CHOSE TO LAND THE AIRCRAFT ON HIGHWAY 4, THINKING HE WOULD NOT MAKE IT TO CONCORD WHICH WAS APPROX 5 MILES AWAY. THE PILOT LANDED THE AIRCRAFT ON HIGHWAY 4 WITH TRAFFIC WITHOUT INCIDENT.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
