## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON MAY 2, 2007, THE PILOT HAD A PROBLEM STARTING THE ENGINE AFTER TOPPING OFF WITH FUEL AT THE MCALLEN AIRPORT. A MECHANIC HELPED HIM CLEAR THE ENGINE AFTER FUEL FLAMES WERE COMING OUT THE EXHAUST. THE AIRCRAFT TOOK OFF TO THE SOUTH AND CRASHED ON 10TH STREET APPROXIMATELY 2 MILES FROM THE AIRPORT, AFTER THE PILOT DECLARED AN EMERGENCY DUE TO LOSS OF POWER. THE AIRCRAFT HIT THE CONCRETE BARRIERS DIVIDING THE HIGHWAY AND THEN THE GUARDRAIL ON THE SOUTHBOUND LANES. THE AIRCRAFT CAUGHT FIRE AFTER THE RIGHT WING HIT THE GUARDRAIL AT THE FUEL CAP AREA. THE AIRCRAFT WAS DESTROYED. THE FEMALE PASSENGER RECEIVED FATAL INJURIES. THE PILOT WAS REMOVED FROM THE BURNING WRECKAGE BUT HIS INJURIES WERE ALSO FATAL.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
