## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) THE PILOT STATED HE SWITCHED FUEL TANKS AND THE ENGINE STOPPED IMMEDIATELY. HE WAS UNABLE TO RESTART THE ENGINE. THE AIRCRAFT LANDED EAST ON OLD PORTLAND ROAD, ROUTE 216. IT LANDED HARD AND BOUNCED BEFORE STRIKING A ROAD SIGN WITH THE LEFT WING AND STOPPING BETWEEN TWO TREES. THERE WERE MARKS ON BOTH FLAPS FROM THE MAIN GEAR TIRES. THERE WAS NO FUEL SMELL AT THE SCENE AND NO FUEL WAS SEEPING FROM THE TANKS. FUEL WAS NOT VISIBLE IN THE TANKS. 11.5 GALLONS OF FUEL WERE PURCHASED BEFORE TAKEOFF. PROPELLER DAMAGE INDICATES IT WAS NOT ROTATING WHEN THE AIRCRAFT LANDED. A FAA MAINTENANCE ASI EXAMINED THE ENGINE IN A SHOP. THERE WAS NO FUEL IN THE CARBURETOR BOWL.
