## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) AFTER PLANNING & BRIEF BY CHIEF PILOT, STUDENT SOLO LEFT GREENWOOD LAKE A.P. (4N1) FOR PRACTICE LANDINGS AT ORANGE COUNTY A.P. (MGJ). AFTER ONE UNEVENTFUL FULL-FLAP TOUCH & GO ON RNWY 03, STUDENT ATTEMPTED ANOTHER LANDING. HE STATED THAT THE APPROACH WENT WELL, AND IN-CLOSE THE A/C "BALLOONED" AND HE ATTEMPTED TO MAKE AN ADJUSTMENT. HE HEARD NO STALL HORN. HE NOTED THE LEFT WING DROPPED AND THE NEXT THING RECALLED WAS THE A/C COMING TO REST 300' LEFT OF THE RUNWAY AND TURNED ALMOST 180 DEGREES TO THE RNWY. FLAPS WERE @ 50% DOWN, NOT FULL AS INTENDED.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB NYC07CA111](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/NYC07CA111), May 5, 2007: Cessna 172S (N12152), Montgomery, NY, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's improper flare while landing, which resulted in a loss of directional control and collision with terrain.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
