## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) THE STUDENT PILOT WAS RETURNING INTO THE TRAFFIC PATTERN FOR LANDING ON RUNWAY 8L AND LANDED HARD CAUSING THE PROPELLER TO STRIKE THE RUNWAY. SUBSEQUENT INVESTIGATION FOUND DAMAGE TO THE FIREWALL AS A RESULT OF THE NOSE GEAR'S CONTACT WITH THE GROUND.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CHI07LA164](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CHI07LA164), May 7, 2007: Cessna 172R (N51827), Chesterfield, MO, substantial damage. Probable cause: Inadequate flare during landing. The induced oscillation, not performing a go-around, the pilot's lack of experience and the failure to perform remedial action were factors.

## Other reports on N51827 (1)

Matched to the same aircraft by N-number and date.

- [Accident 20161024023559A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/20161024023559A), Oct 24, 2016: Cessna 172R (N51827), Sauget, IL, Substantial damage. Unknown - this event was not reported at the time of occurence.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
