(-23) AIRCREW REPORTED TO ATC MODERATE TO SEVERE TURBULENCE AND EXPERIENCED MOMENTARY LOSS OF CONTROL FOR 20 SECONDS IN-FLIGHT BETWEEN 13,000 & 11,000 FEET AT 300 KNOTS OVER LANCASTER PA. AIRCRAFT LOG BOOK DID NOT INDICATE AN IN-FLIGHT DISCREPANCY/OCCURRENCE HAD HAPPENED. AIRCARRIER WAS RELUCTANT TO HAVE AIRCREW ENTER THE IN-FLIGHT SEVERE TURBULENCE EVENT INTO LOG BOOK. ENTRY WAS MADE INTO THE LOGBOOK AFTER A SUGGESTION BY THE FAA ASIS ON SITE. A6WA PHL MAINTENANCE WAS THEN ALLOWED TO TROUBLESHOOT THE AIRCRAFT, DOWNLOAD THE DFDR & INSPECTED THE AIRCRAFT FOR DAMAGE. READ OUT OF THE DFDR INDICATED THAT THE TURBULENCE WAS WITHIN TOLERANCE AND NO EXTREME TURBULENCE AIRFRAME INSPECTION WAS REQUIRED AS PER AMM 05-51-03.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
