## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) THE PILOT ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ WAS ON A VFR FLIGHT FROM CHANDLER, AZ (CHD) TO CARLSBAD, CA (CRQ) WITH ONE PASSENGER ON BOARD. THE PILOT ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ SAID HE TOPPED THE FUEL TANKS (26 GAL/24.5 GAL USABLE/APPROX 4 HR FUEL) PRIOR TO DEPARTURE. HIS ETE WAS 2:50 HR. THE PILOT ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ SAID THE ENGINE FALTERED, AND THEN STOPPED, AT ABOUT 4800 FT MSL, APPROXIMATELY 12 NM FROM CRQ. THIS OCCURRED AT ABOUT 02:55 HR. AFTER TAKEOFF. THE PILOT ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ EXECUTED AN EMERGENCY LANDING ON MISSION AVE. IN ESCONDIDO, WITHOUT INCIDENT. THE AIRPLANE WAS TAKEN BY FLATBED TRUCK TO RAMONA AIRPORT. THE AIRCRAFT SALVAGE COMPANY STATED THAT ABOUT 4.5 GAL OF FUEL WAS DRAINED FROM THE FUEL TANKS PRIOR TO MOVING THE AIRPLANE. THAT MEANS THE PILOT ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ HAD ABOUT 0:30 USABLE FUEL REMAINING WHEN THE ENGINE QUIT. THE ENGINE DID NOT QUIT DUE TO FUEL EXHAUSTION.

Matched to the same aircraft by N-number and date.

- [Incident 19921012055679I](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19921012055679I), Oct 12, 1992: Cessna 152 (N4976P), Tusayan, AZ. Engine quit en route. Forced landing on dirt road. Had fuel exhaustion.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
