## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) DURING THE TAKEOFF ROLL, THE STUDENT PILOT LOST DIRECTIONAL CONTROL OF THE AIRCRAFT. THE AIRCRAFT DEPARTED THE LEFT SIDE OF THE RUNWAY, IMPACTING THE 1,000 FOOT REMAINING SIGN FOR RUNWAY 15, CONTINUED THROUGH THE GRASS AND WENT ACROSS A LARGE DRAINAGE DITCH. DAMAGE FROM THE IMPACT ON THE OPPOSITE SIDE OF THE DITCH CAUSED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT. NO INJURIES WERE SUSTAINED TO THE STUDENT PILOT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB MIA07CA099](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/MIA07CA099), May 14, 2007: Cessna 172K (N79941), Emporia, VA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The failure of the student pilot to maintain directional control of the airplane during the takeoff roll resulting in the on-ground collision with a ditch.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
