## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) THE AIRCRAFT WAS SOUTH OF THE FAIRFIELD, IDAHO AIRPORT, AND CRASHED WHILE APPROACHING TO LAND ON RUNWAY 07. THE PILOT STATED THAT HE WAS DESCENDING FROM 6000 FT MSL AND DURING THE TURN TO RIGHT BASE, HE ENCOUNTERED A WIND SHEAR. HE LOST CONTROL OF THE AIRCRAFT AND STRUCK THE GROUND WITH THE LEFT WING-TIP FIRST AND SKIDDED ACROSS THE GROUND (ALFALFA FIELD) FOR ABOUT 150 YARDS. THE UNCONTROLLED SKID CAUSED DAMAGE TO THE LEFT WING AND SHEARED THE LEFT MAIN LANDING GEAR FOR THE FUSELAGE. THE AIRCRAFT CAME TO A STOP CAUSING SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE COWLING, THE AIRFRAME AND EMPENNAGE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB SEA07CA125](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/SEA07CA125), May 17, 2007: Cessna 170B (N2778C), Fairfield, ID, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain adequate airspeed while turning from base to final, resulting in an inadvertent stall/mush and subsequent collision with terrain.

## Other reports on N2778C (1)

Matched to the same aircraft by N-number and date.

- [Incident 19810412030009I](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19810412030009I), Apr 12, 1981: Cessna 170B (N2778C), Casper, WY, Minor damage. Following touchdown wind gust picked up right wing tip and tip dragged causing control loss.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
