## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) AIRCRAFT HIT POWER LINES AND CRASHED. A POST ACCIDENT FIRE DESTROYED THE COCKPIT AREA. THE PILOT RECEIVED FATAL INJURIES AND THE AIRCRAFT WAS DESTROYED. WITNESSES REPORTED HEAVY RAIN AND PEA SIZED HAIL DURING THE TIME OF THE ACCIDENT. THE OWNER/OPERATOR SAID THE PILOT WAS 5 MILES FROM THE INTENDED FIELD TO BE SPRAYED. THE PILOT MAY HAVE BEEN TRYING TO LAND IN THE WHEAT FIELD AND DID NOT SEE THE POWER LINES, OR BECAME DISORIENTED DUE TO POOR VISIBILITY.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CHI07LA147](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CHI07LA147), May 19, 2007: Thrush S2RHG-T65 (N40097), Tyndall, SD, destroyed, 1 fatal. Probable cause: The pilot not maintaining altitude/clearance from a powerline while maneuvering. A factor was the low visibility associated with the thunderstorm and the powerlines.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
