## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON MAY 27, AT APPROXIMATELY 1005 CDT, THE STUDENT PILOT WAS RELOCATING HIS NEWLY ACQUIRED HELICOPTER FROM A TRAILER PARKED IN FRONT OF HIS RESIDENCE TO A LANDING AREA BEHIND THE HOUSE. THE TAKE OFF FROM THE TRAILER WAS UNEVENTFUL AND HE CIRCLED AROUND TO THE SOUTH AND APPROACHED THE LANDING AREA ON AN EASTERLY HEADING. HIS SON WITNESSED THE ACCIDENT AND REPORTED THAT THE AIRCRAFT LANDED HARD AND APPEARED TO BOUNCE INTO THE AIR TO A HEIGHT OF ABOUT TWENTY FEET AT WHICH TIME THE AIRCRAFT ROLLED OVER AND IMPACTED THE GROUND. THE LANDING AREA WAS AN OPEN ROLLING PASTURE AND THE AREA WHERE THE AIRCRAFT CONTACTED THE GROUND WAS NOT VISIBLE TO THE WITNESS BUT SUBSEQUENT INVESTIGATION DISCLOSED THAT THE TERRAIN WAS SLOPING WHERE THE AIRCRAFT TOUCHED DOWN. CONDITIONS CONSISTENT WITH THOSE REQUIRED FOR DYNAMIC ROLLOVER WERE EVIDENT IN THAT THE UNEVEN TERRAIN WOULD HAVE IMPARTED A DOWNHILL ROLLING TENDENCY ON THE AIRCRAFT AFTER THE HARD LANDING. OPPOSITE CYCLIC CONTROL INPUT AND INCREASING THE COLLECTIVE TO GET BACK INTO THE AIR WOULD HAVE CAUSED A ROLLING MOMENT THAT COULD NOT HAVE BEEN CORRECTED BY FLIGHT CONTROL INPUT. THE AIRCRAFT SUSTAINED MAJOR DAMAGE AND THE PILOT SUFFERED FATAL INJURIES. THERE WAS NO POST CRASH FIRE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB MIA07LA102](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/MIA07LA102), May 27, 2007: Bell 47G (N7763), Hayden, AL, substantial damage, 1 fatal. Probable cause: The student pilot's failure to maintain aircraft control during hover, following a bounced landing.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
