## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) WHILE CONDUCTING AERIAL APPLICATION OPERATIONS, THE PILOT ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ MISJUDGED THE DISTANCE BETWEEN TWO SETS OF POWER LINES. THE PILOT ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ STRUCK THE POWER LINES WITH THE VERTICAL STABILIZER OF AIR TRACTOR, N502DB, CUTTING OFF THE VERTICAL STABILIZER AND RUDDER. THE AIRCRAFT WAS SUBSTANTIALLY DAMAGED IN THE CRASH, BUT THE PILOT ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ WAS NOT INJURED.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB DFW07CA123](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/DFW07CA123), May 29, 2007: Air Tractor AT-502B (N502DB), Banquete, TX, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain clearance from the power transmission line(s). A contributing factor was the low altitude selected by the pilot.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
