## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON JUNE 1, 2007, AT APPROXIMATELY 22:30 LOCAL TIME, AIR METHODS CORP. WAS ENGAGED IN A MEDICAL FLIGHT TRANSPORTING A PATIENT FROM ST. LUKES HOSPITAL IN CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA, TO THE UNIVERSITY OF IOWA HOSPITALS AND CLINICS IN IOWA CITY, IOWA. APPROXIMATELY 5 MINUTES INTO THE FLIGHT, THE PILOT HEARD A LOUD SOUND ACCOMPANIED BY A YAWING OF THE AIRCRAFT. ALTHOUGH THERE WERE NO WARNING LIGHTS AND THE INSTRUMENT READINGS APPEARED NORMAL, THE PILOT ELECTED TO DIVERT TO THE CEDAR RAPIDS AIRPORT FOR A PRECAUTIONARY LANDING. ON APPROACH TO THE AIRPORT, THE AIRCRAFT STARTED TO YAW OR TORQUE AND THE PILOT REPORTED A PERCEIVED PARTIAL LOSS OF POWER. THE PILOT IMMEDIATELY DECLARED AN EMERGENCY AND INITIATED AN AUTOROTATION. AFTER A SUCCESSFUL AUTOROTATIVE LANDING ON RUNWAY 27, THE PILOT INSTRUCTED THE MEDICAL TEAM TO EXIT THE AIRCRAFT AND SHUT DOWN USING THE ENGINE START SWITCH.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
