## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) THE PILOT OF THE SINGLE ENGINE EXPERIMENTAL AIRCRAFT APPLIED POWER TO ARREST HIS DESCENT ON SHORT FINAL. HE REPORTS THAT HE HEARD A LOUD "POP" FOLLOWED BY LOSS OF ENGINE POWER. THE AIRCRAFT STRUCK THE GRASS RUNWAY WITH ITS LEFT WING TIP. IT THEN SKIDDED ACROSS THE RUNWAY STRIKING A SMALL TREE WITH THE RIGHT WING TIP. THIS OPENED THE RIGHT FUEL TANK, SPILLING FUEL. THE AIRCRAFT THEN CONTINUED THROUGH THE FENCE AT THE END OF THE RUNWAY AND CAME TO REST INVERTED. THE PILOT, WHO RECEIVED MINOR INJURIES, WAS PULLED FROM THE WRECKAGE BY NEIGHBORS WHO HEARD THE INCIDENT. THE PILOT ALSO HELPED BUILD THE AIRCRAFT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB DEN07CA097](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/DEN07CA097), Jun 1, 2007: Stevenson RV-6 (N836RV), Oakley, KS, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain airspeed during final approach resulting in a inadvertent stall and impact with terrain.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
