## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON JUNE 2, 2007, AT APPROXIMATELY 1053 CDT, THE PILOT ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ LANDED N53377, A CESSNA 188-A188B, ON COUNTY ROAD 388, BETWEEN OSAGE AND TRADEWIND ROAD, APPROXIMATELY 7 STATUTE MILES NORTHEAST OF HAPPY, TEXAS. THE PILOT STATED HE SMELLED ELECTRICAL SMOKE AND LATER SAW FLAMES FROM UNDERNEATH THE RIGHT WING TRAILING EDGE WHILE FLYING EAST BOUND APPROXIMATELY 300 FEET ABOVE THE GROUND. THE PILOT STATED HE WAS SURVEYING A FIELD PRIOR TO CONDUCTING AN AERIAL AGRICULTURAL SPRAY OPERATION UNDER TITLE 14 CFR PART 137. THE PILOT SUCCESSFULLY MADE AN EMERGENCY LANDING ON A DIRT ROAD. THE PILOT STATED HE DID NOT SHUT OFF THE FUEL SUPPLY BY REDUCING THE MIXTURE OR CLOSING THE FUEL SHUT-OFF VALVE, BECAUSE HE JUST WANTED TO GET IT ON THE GROUND. HE STATED THE ENGINE WAS STILL RUNNING AS HE EXITED THE AIRCRAFT. THE PILOT RECEIVED MINOR BURNS TO HIS RIGHT HAND PRIOR TO EXITING THE AIRCRAFT. THE CHEMICAL ONBOARD WAS WATER BASED AND CONSIDERED NONFLAMMABLE. THE PILOT WAS COUNSELED FOR NOT FOLLOWING PROPER ENGINE FIRE IN-FLIGHT PROCEDURES. THE CAUSE OF THE FIRE IS INCONCLUSIVE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB DFW07CA125](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/DFW07CA125), Jun 2, 2007: Cessna A188B (N53377), Happy, TX, destroyed. Probable cause: An in-flight fire while maneuvering for an undetermined reason.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
