## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) AFTER TAKE-OFF FROM LA PORTE AIRPORT EASTBOUND TOWARD BEAUMONT, THE PILOT INITIATED A POWER AND AN RPM REDUCTION TO 25" AND 2500 RPM'S, RESPECTIVELY. HE INITIATED A SLIGHT CLIMB AT 1500 FEET, REDUCED MANIFOLD PRESSURE TO 23 INCHES AND ATTEMPTED TO REDUCE RPM TO 2400. THE RPM WOULD NOT REDUCE. HE STARTED REVERSAL OF COURSE TOWARD LA PORTE. HE RE-ATTEMPTED TO ADJUST RPM BY ADVANCING PROPELLER CONTROL TOWARD LOWER PITCH. HE NOW NOTED ENGINE RPM OVERSPEED, BUT THE ENGINE RPM PROMPTLY RETURNED TO 2500 RPM ON ITS OWN WITH THE PITCH CONTROL MOVEMENT STILL PROVING INEFFECTIVE. HE NOTED ENGINE OIL PRESSURE FLUCTUATIONS NOW. THE ENGINE COMMENCED SPUTTERING AND PROGRESSIVELY RUNNING ROUGHER AND LARGE MANIFOLD PRESSURE AND OIL PRESSURE FLUCTUATIONS WERE NOTED. THE PILOT DECLARED HE NOW EXPERIENCED A VERY ROUGH ENGINE TO ATC AND SELECTED AN EMERGENCY LANDING FIELD. THE ENGINE STOPPED COMPLETELY. THE PILOT COMPLETED A SUCCESSFUL EMERGENCY LANDING IN OPEN FIELD WITH NO PERSONAL INJURIES OR DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
