## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) PILOT STATED THAT THE WINDS WERE GUSTING, BUT NOT ANY WORSE THAN HE HAS ENCOUNTERED BEFORE, AT HIS PRIVATE LANDING STRIP. HE CAME IN LOW AND HIT AN IRRIGATION DITCH KNOLL. THE PILOT'S WIFE IS A CFI AND STARTED TO TELL HIM HE WAS TOO LOW, BUT THE AIRCRAFT HIT, BOUNCED AND THEN CRASHED ONTO THE RUNWAY. ONE LANDING GEAR CAME OFF AND WAS FOUND FLOATING IN THE IRRIGATION DITCH.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB SEA07CA149](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/SEA07CA149), Jun 11, 2007: Piper PA-16 (N5641H), Esparto, CA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's misjudgment of altitude resulting in an undershoot. Factors included the berm and the wind gusts.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
