## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) N767SW, B-737-100, WAS OPERATED AS SOUTHWEST AIRLINE FLIGHT 1550, ENROUTE FROM MIDWAY AIRPORT, IL, TO OAKLAND, CA. THE CREW DECLARED AN EMERGENCY AND DIVERTED TO OMAHA, NE DUE TO SMOKE IN THE GALLEY. THE AIRCRAFT LANDED SAFELY AND TAXIED TO THE GATE. CONTRACT MAINTENANCE VERIFIED THAT THE REAR COFFEE MAKER WAS CAUSING THE SMOKE, AS THE CREW SUSPECTED. (-23 AMENDMENT) THE COFFEE MAKER WAS DEFERRED PER SWAA MEL, AND THE AIRCRAFT APPROVED FOR RETURN TO SERVICE.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
