## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) THE FLIGHT INSTRUCTOR AND STUDENT PILOT EXPERIENCED A LOSS OF POWER ON THE CE-172 ENROUTE FROM ABILENE (ABI) TO NORTHWEST REGIONAL AIRPORT (52F) AND MADE A SUCCESSFUL EMERGENCY LANDING IN A FIELD FIVE MILES WEST OF THE MINERAL WELLS AIRPORT (MWL). THE PILOT WAS IN CONTACT WITH FORT WORTH AIR ROUTE TRAFFIC CONTROL CENTER (ARTCC) FOR VFR FLIGHT FOLLOWING AT THE TIME. FORT WORTH (ARTCC) REPORTED THE LOSS OF THE AIRCRAFT. THE AIRCRAFT DID NOT HAVE FUEL IN THE RIGHT TANK. HOWEVER, THE LEFT TANK WAS HALF FULL OF FUEL. THE ENGINE APPEARED TO QUIT DUE TO THE INABILITY TO DRAW THE REMAINING FUEL FROM THE LEFT FUEL TANK. THE TANK SELECTOR VALVE WAS IN THE BOTH POSITION WHEN THE ENGINE QUIT. NO ADDITIONAL DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT OCCURRED DURING THE EMERGENCY LANDING. A MALFUNCTION AND DEFECT REPORT WILL BE SUBMITTED. THIS REPORT IS CLOSED.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
