## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) PILOT ATTEMPTED EARLY MORNING TAKEOFF ON GRASS AIRPORT. PILOT LOST VISUAL REFERENCE OF RUNWAY DUE TO GROUND FOG, AND ROTATED FOR TAKEOFF AS AIRCRAFT WAS DEPARTING LEFT SIDE OF RUNWAY. AIRCRAFT HIT TOPS OF SEVERAL TREES, LEFT WING WAS TORN FROM AIRCRAFT, AND CRASHED COMING TO REST INVERTED. THE PILOT AND PASSENGER SUSTAINED MINOR INJURIES.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB NYC07CA137](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/NYC07CA137), Jun 13, 2007: Piper PA-28RT-201 (N3023U), Tinicum, PA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The instrument-rated pilot's failure to maintain runway alignment by instruments after encountering fog during the initial climb. A factor was the foggy weather conditions.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
