## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) THE PILOT DEPARTED FROM PORT SAINT JOE AIRPORT (A51) AND WAS REPORTED FLYING AT TREE TOP LEVEL AT ABOUT 80 TO 100 FEET. HE THEN STARTED FLYING THE CANAL AND THE RIGHT WING STRUCK THE POWER LINES THAT CROSSED OVER THE CANAL. THE AIRCRAFT CARTWHEELED INTO THE WATER BELOW. TWO INDIVIDUALS CLOSE TO THE SCENE TRIED TO RESCUE THE PILOT BUT WERE UNSUCCESSFUL.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ATL07LA089](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ATL07LA089), Jun 14, 2007: Gordon R Smith Sea Rey (N94GR), Port St. Joe, FL, substantial damage, 1 fatal. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain a visual lookout and his improper decision to conduct a low altitude maneuver.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
