## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) THE PILOT WAS RETURNING FROM HOMER, AK TO HIS CABIN ON PERL ISLAND, AK IN HIS CESSNA 206. WHEN ATTEMPTING TO APPROACH THE PRIVATE AIRSTRIP, THE WINDS BECAME GUSTY AND THEN HE LOST CONTROL OF THE AIRCRAFT. THE PILOT STATED THE WIND HAD RAPIDLY CHANGED FROM A HEAD WIND TO A TAIL WIND. THE AIRCRAFT STRUCK SOME NEARBY TREES AND CAME TO A STOP AND SUSTAINED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE TO THE RIGHT WING AND PROPELLER. THE PILOT RECEIVED ONLY MINOR CUTS AND BRUISES AS A RESULT OF THE INCIDENT. THE PILOT DID NOT FILE A FLIGHT PLAN OR CHECK THE WEATHER BEFORE HE DEPARTED FOR PERL ISLAND. HE STATED THAT THE SKIES WERE CLEAR AND IT WAS ONLY A FIFTEEN MINUTE FLIGHT. THE PILOT'S LAST FLIGHT CHECK WAS IN APRIL OF 2006 AND HIS MEDICAL WAS UP TO DATE. THE AIRCRAFT HAD RECEIVED AN ANNUAL MAINTENANCE CHECK TWO OR THREE WEEKS BEFORE THE INCIDENT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ANC07CA050](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ANC07CA050), Jun 15, 2007: Cessna 206 (N230JH), Seldovia, AK, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's inadequate compensation for wind conditions during the final landing approach, which resulted in an in-flight collision with trees. A factor associated with the accident was turbulence.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
