## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON JUNE 22, 2007, THE PILOT ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ WAS ATTEMPTING A BANNER PICK UP ON THE SOUTH SIDE OF SANFORD AIRPORT. AFTER MISSING THE BANNER PICK UP, WITNESSES SAID THE AIRCRAFT WENT INTO A STEEP CLIMB WHILE EXECUTING A HIGH BANKED TURN TO THE LEFT AT APPROXIMATELY 200 FEET AGL. THE AIRCRAFT APPEARED TO STALL AND FALL TO THE GROUND NOSE FIRST. THE AIRCRAFT WAS DESTROYED AND THE PILOT SUFFERED FATAL INJURIES. THE PILOT HAD SIGNIFICANT EXPERIENCE IN BANNER TOW OPERATIONS WITH A GRUMMAN G164 AG-CAT, BUT ONLY 22 HOURS WITH THE LOWER POWERED CHAMPION 8GCBC. THE PILOT SUFFERED FATAL INJURIES AND THE AIRCRAFT WAS SUBSTANTIALLY DAMAGED. THE CONFIGURATION OF THE DAMAGE AND ASSOCIATED GROUND SCARS WERE TYPICAL OF A STALL/SPIN EVENT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB NYC07LA147](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/NYC07LA147), Jun 22, 2007: American Champion 8GCBC (N139SG), Sanford, FL, substantial damage, 1 fatal. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain airspeed and his excessive pitch attitude while maneuvering.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
