## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON JUNE 23, 2007, AT 1320 MOUNTAIN STANDARD TIME, A PIPER PA 24-250, N7584P, LOST ENGINE POWER DURING CRUISE FLIGHT AND FORCE LANDED APPROXIMATELY 27 STATUTE MILES EAST OF FLAGSTAFF, ARIZONA. ACCORDING TO THE PILOT, HE WAS INTENDING TO FLY TO HOLBROOK MUNICIPAL AIRPORT TO PURCHASE FUEL WHERE IT WAS A $1.00 A GALLON CHEAPER THAN FLAGSTAFF. APPROXIMATELY 20 MINUTES INTO THE FLIGHT, THE ENGINE LOST POWER. THE PILOT SWITCHED FROM THE LEFT MAIN FUEL TANK TO THE RIGHT MAIN FUEL TANK; HOWEVER, THE ENGINE DID NOT REGAIN POWER. THE PILOT THEN LANDED THE AIRPLANE IN A FIELD. ACCORDING TO THE PILOT HE CHECKED BOTH TANKS VISUALLY PRIOR TO DEPARTURE FROM FLAGSTAFF AND THE LEFT MAIN HAD 1/4 OF A TANK OR ABOUT 7.5 GALS AND THE RIGHT MAIN HAD A LITTLE LESS THAN A 1/4 OF A TANK OR LESS THAN 7.5 GALS. THE NTSB IS TESTING THE ENGINE TO DETERMINE IF ITS FUEL CONSUMPTION IS NORMAL.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB SEA07LA178](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/SEA07LA178), Jun 23, 2007: Piper PA 24-250 (N7584P), Flagstaff, AZ, substantial damage. Probable cause: The loss of engine power during cruise flight due to fuel exhaustion, as a result of the pilot's failure to refuel and inadequate preflight planning.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
