## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) PILOT AND ONLY OCCUPANT DEPARTED THE MACHIAS AIRPORT (MVM) MACHIAS, MAINE, PIC DEPARTED RUNWAY 36. HE STATED THAT HE WAS ONLY AIRBORNE FOR APPROXIMATELY 15 MINUTES. HE STATED THAT HE HAD GONE UP TO DO SOME BASIC MANEUVERS, 360 TURNS. HE RETURNED TO THE AIRPORT AND MADE AN APPROACH TO RUNWAY 36. HE STATED THAT THE AIRCRAFT KEPT FLOATING DOWN THE RUNWAY. FINALLY WHEN THE AIRCRAFT MADE CONTACT HE WAS WELL DOWN THE RUNWAY. HE STATED HIS AIRCRAFT IS ONLY EQUIPPED WITH A HAND BRAKE FOR THE TWO MAIN LANDING WHEELS. HE APPLIED THE BRAKES BUT WAS UNABLE TO STOP, HE WENT OFF THE RIGHT EDGE OF THE RUNWAY AT THE END OF THE RUNWAY, TRAVELLED IN HIGH GRASS FOR APPROXIMATELY 165' AND WENT DOWN AN EMBANKMENT WHERE THE AIRCRAFT COLLIDED WITH TREES AND BRUSH. INVESTIGATION REVEALED THAT THE AIRCRAFT FIRST STARTED TO LEAVE VISIBLE MARKS WITH THE LEFT MAIN GEAR AT A POINT OF APPROXIMATELY 390 FEET. THERE WAS A BREAK IN THAT MARK AND THEN A SECOND MARK WAS LEFT FOR DISTANCE OF 204 FEET. THIS MARK CLEARLY SHOWED THAT THE AIRCRAFT WAS GOING TOWARDS THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE RUNWAY. THE LEFT MAIN WHEEL WENT OFF THE RUNWAY APPROXIMATELY 84 FEET FROM THE END OF THE RUNWAY. THERE WERE MARKS ALSO LEFT FROM THE RIGHT MAIN WHEEL. THESE MARKS WERE SHORTER IN DISTANCE AND THERE WERE LOTS OF SPACING IN BETWEEN, THE LONGEST WAS 24 FEET IN LENGTH. THE RIGHT MAIN WHEELS ALSO CONFIRMED THE AIRCRAFT LEAVING THE RUNWAY ON THE RIGHT SIDE. THERE WAS A NOTICEABLE WEIGHT TRANSFER MARK LEFT BY THE NOSE WHEEL SHOWING THE AIRCRAFT HEADING FOR THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE RUNWAY. ONCE THE AIRCRAFT LEFT THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE RUNWAY, THE AIRCRAFT STRAIGHTENED OUT AND FOLLOWED THE EDGE OF THE RUNWAY FOR APPROXIMATELY 250 FEET, GOING ACROSS HIGH GRASS OF APPROXIMATELY 2 FEET IN HEIGHT. THE AIRCRAFT THEN WENT DOWN AN EMBANKMENT COLLIDING WITH TREES AND BRUSH.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
