## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) AFTER TAKEOFF, THE AIRCRAFT EXPERIENCED LOSS OF POWER WITH FLAMES OBSERVED EXITING OUT OF THE EXHAUST. THE AIRCRAFT LANDED STRAIGHT AHEAD INTO A FIELD SUSTAINED DAMAGE UNDERNEATH BOTH WINGS, SUCH AS FLAPS AND AILERONS AND THE REAR SPAR AREA. PRELIMINARY INVESTIGATION BY AN OVERHAUL REPAIR FACILITY ON THE ENGINE SHOWS DAMAGE RESULTED FROM A COMPRESSOR TURBINE BLADE THAT WAS LIBERATED INTERNALLY. A MORE INDEPTH INSPECTION AND REPORT WILL FOLLOW.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB SEA07LA204](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/SEA07LA204), Jun 30, 2007: Air Tractor AT-502A (N6176L), Chowchilla, CA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The loss of engine power as the result of the fatigue fracture and separation of two compressor turbine blades, which induced a catastrophic failure of the compressor turbine section.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
