## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON JULY 3, 2007, CIVIL AIRCRAFT N47LC, A BEECHCRAFT KING AIR E-90, TOOK OFF FROM KCRQ ON A 14 CFR PART 91 FLIGHT TO KTUS. THE PIC AND ONE CERTIFICATED PASSENGER WERE THE ONLY OCCUPANTS ONBOARD THE AIRCRAFT. THE PIC OBTAINED WEATHER INFORMATION AND FILED AN IFR FLIGHT PLAN VIA DUATS. AT THE TIME OF TAKEOFF, KCRQ ASOS WEATHER WAS REPORTED AS VERTICAL VISIBILITY 100', 1/4 MILE VISIBILITY IN FOG. SHORTLY AFTER TAKEOFF, THE AIRCRAFT STRUCK THE BOTTOM TWO STRANDS OF HIGH TENSION POWER LINES APPROXIMATELY .25 SM WEST OF THE DEPARTURE END OF KCRQ RUNWAY 24. THE AIRCRAFT THEN IMPACTED "THE CROSSINGS" GOLF COURSE AND CAME TO REST APPROXIMATELY .5 SM WEST OF THE RUNWAY 24 DEPARTURE END. THE ELEVATION OF THE HIGH TENSION POWER LINES ARE BELOW THE KCRQ AIRPORT FIELD ELEVATION. THE AIRCRAFT'S FUEL IGNITED UPON CONTACT WITH THE POWER LINES, CAUSING THE AIRCRAFT TO BURN INTENSELY. THE MAJOR AIRCRAFT COMPONENTS ACCOUNTED FOR ARE: THE LEFT WING, AILERON AND FLAP; VERTICAL STABILIZER AND RUDDER, LEFT HORIZONTAL STABILIZER AND ELEVATOR; RIGHT HORIZONTAL STABILIZER AND ELEVATOR, LEFT ENGINE AND NACELLE, RIGHT ENGINE AND NACELLE. THE MAJORITY OF THE RIGHT WING AND FUSELAGE WERE CONSUMED BY FIRE. BOTH OCCUPANTS SUSTAINED FATAL INJURIES. SOME AIRCRAFT COMPONENTS ARE STILL UNDER INVESTIGATION BY THE NTSB.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB LAX07FA200](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/LAX07FA200), Jul 3, 2007: Beech E90 (N47LC), Carlsbad, CA, destroyed, 2 fatal. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain clearance from wires during an instrument takeoff attempt. Contributing to the accident were fog, reduced visibility, and the low ceiling.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
