## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) WITH ENGINE RUNNING AND ROTOR ENGAGED AT IDLE RPM TO FACILITATE BATTERY RECHARGING, PASSENGER SEATED IN RIGHT SEAT INADVERTENTLY DEPRESSED LEFT RUDDER PEDAL CAUSING AIRCRAFT TO SWING LEFT AND IMPACT A PORTABLE BATTERY CHARGER UNIT POSITIONED TO THE LEFT OF THE HELICOPTER'S TAIL. UPON IMPACT, HELICOPTER ROLLED LEFT FAR ENOUGH THAT ROTOR BLADES STRUCK GROUND, TAIL BROKE OFF, AND BOTH BLADES AND TAIL ASSEMBLY DEPARTED AIRFRAME. FUSELAGE EVENTUALLY SETTLED ON ITS LEFT SIDE WITH SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE TO AIRCRAFT. PILOT CLAIMS THE AIRCRAFT HAD NOT BEEN AIRWORTHY FOR A NUMBER OF YEARS AND THERE WAS NEVER ANY INTENT TO FLY SAME.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
