## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) THE PILOT INITIATED THE TAKE0OFF ON RUNWAY 24, A 1220 FT. GRASS RUNWAY. THE AIRCRAFT LIFTED OFF APPROX. 5/8 OF THE WAY DOWN THE RUNWAY & ROSE TO APPROX. 10 FT. THE PILOT STATED THAT THE ENGINE SEEMED TO LOSE POWER & THEN THE AIRCRAFT SETTLED BACK DOWN ON THE GROUND. THE PILOT CHECKED THE MAG. SWITCH & FUEL VALVE FOR THEIR PROPER POSITIONS. THE PILOT STATED THAT THE ENGINE RESUMED NORMAL POWER SO HE CONTINUED THE TAKE-OFF ROLL. THE AIRCRAFT LIFTED OFF AGAIN, ROSE TO ABOUT 10 FT. WHEN THE ENGINE SEEMED TO LOSE POWER AGAIN. THE AIRCRAFT STARTED TO SETTLE BACK ONTO THE RUNWAY. THE PILOT SAW THAT THE END OF THE RUNWAY WAS FAST APPROACHING. A TEN FOOT DEEP DRAINAGE DITCH WAS AT THE DEPARTURE END OF THE RUNWAY. THE PILOT TRIED TO CLEAR THE DRAINAGE DITCH, BUT THE AIRCRAFT STALLED & TOUCHED DOWN ABOUT 5 FEET IN FRONT OF THE DRAINAGE DITCH. THE AIRCRAFT IMPACTED THE FAR SIDE OF THE DRAINAGE DITCH, WHEREIN THE FUEL TANK WAS RUPTURED AND THE AIRCRAFT CAUGHT FIRE. THE PILOT & PASSENGER DEPARTED THE AIRCRAFT WITH MINOR BURNS, CUTS & BRUISES. THE AIRCRAFT WAS MOSTLY CONSUMED BY THE FIRE BEFORE FIRE PERSONNEL ARRIVED.
