## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) A CE-177RG, N52650, EXPERIENCED SINGLE ENGINE FAILURE AT APPROXIMATELY 300' AGL AFTER DEPARTING RUNWAY 25 ON A VFR FLIGHT FROM 7N7 (SPITFIRE) TO DKX (KNOXVILLE). THE PLANE EXPERIENCED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE AFTER LANDING IN A FARMER'S FIELD 1.5 MILES SOUTHEAST OF THE DEPARTURE AIRPORT. THERE WERE NO INJURIES TO EITHER FRONT SEAT OCCUPANT WHO ARE BOTH RATED PILOTS. THE TWO PILOTS ARRIVED EARLIER IN THE DAY ON A COMMERCIAL FLIGHT FROM TEXAS TO PURCHASE THE AIRPLANE AND FLY IT BACK. THE AIRCRAFT JUST CAME OUT OF ANNUAL/PREPURCHASE INSPECTION ON 7/1/07. FIELD INVESTIGATION DISCOVERED WATER CONTAMINATION TO THE LEFT INBOARD WING TANK SUMP, THE RIGHT INBOARD TANK SUMP AND THE BOTTOM ENGINE SUMP.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ANC07LA063](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ANC07LA063), Jul 6, 2007: Cessna 177RG (N52650), Pedricktown, NJ, substantial damage. Probable cause: The first pilot's inadequate preflight inspection, and water contamination of the airplane's fuel system. A factor contributing to the accident was rough/uneven terrain.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
