## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) AT APPROXIMATELY 1630 LOCAL ON SUNDAY JULY 8, 2007, THE PILOT OF N2762Q, CE-182-K, WAS RETURNING TO MATINICUS ISLAND (35ME) FROM KNOX COUNTY REGIONAL AIRPORT (RDK). AFTER TURNING SHORT FINAL FOR RUNWAY 18 AT MATINICUS, THE PILOT STATED AN EAGLE APPEARED VERY CLOSE ON THE RIGHT HAND SIDE OF THE AIRCRAFT. THE PILOT EXECUTED A STEEP BANK TO THE LEFT TO AVOID THE BIRD AND APPLIED FULL POWER TO RETURN THE AIRCRAFT BACK TO LEVEL FLIGHT. AT THAT TIME, THE AIRCRAFT WAS LEFT OF THE RUNWAY. THE AIRCRAFT IMPACTED A SPRUCE TREE HEAD ON WITH THE NOSE WHEEL AND, OR THE PROP. THE PILOT MADE AN ATTEMPT TO KEEP THE AIRCRAFT RIGHT SIDE UP. THE AIRCRAFT ENDED UP IMPACTING THE LEFT SIDE OF THE RUNWAY WITH THE RIGHT WING DOWN. THE AIRCRAFT TRAVELED ABOUT 50 FEET AND CAME TO REST AT A 90 DEGREE ANGLE TO THE RUNWAY.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
