## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) PILOT AND STUDENT WERE ON THE 45 DEGREE ENTRY TO THE DOWNWIND LEG FOR A LEFT DOWNWIND TO RUNWAY 18 WHEN THEY HIT A HAWK. THE HAWK CAME THROUGH THE WINDSCREEN. THE CFI THOUGHT HE WAS HIGH ENOUGH (1000 FT) FROM THE FIELD TO MAKE A LANDING, BUT REALIZED THAT THE AIRCRAFT WAS DESCENDING VERY FAST SO ELECTED TO LAND IN A FIELD JUST NORTH EAST OF RUNWAY 18 IN A TOMATO FIELD. THE AIRCRAFT LANDED THIRTY DEGREES TO THE FALLOWS ANND TURNED OVER WHEN THE NOSE WHEEL TOUCHED DOWN IN THE SOFT WET DIRT.

## NTSB investigation

None matched to this report by aircraft and date. Search the NTSB's own records: https://data.ntsb.gov/carol-main-public/basic-search

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
