## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) THE PILOT AND HIS PASSENGER WERE ENROUTE FROM MORGAN, UTAH, TO OSHKOSH, WISCONSIN. WHILE LANDING AT CHADRON MUNICIPAL AIRPORT (CDR), CHADRON, NEBRASKA, THE PILOT ATTEMPTED TO LAND ON RUNWAY 20. RIGHT BEFORE TOUCHDOWN, APPROXIMATELY 300 FEET PAST THE NUMBERS, THE PILOT EXPERIENCED A SLIGHT CROSSWIND AND TRIED TO ABORT THE LANDING. THE PILOT APPLIED POWER AND COUNTERED WITH AILERON AND RUDDER; HOWEVER, THE AIRCRAFT CONTINUED TO VEER TO THE RIGHT OF RUNWAY 20. THE AIRCRAFT THEN STARTED TO GROUND LOOP UNTIL THE RIGHT WING IMPACTED THE TERRAIN CAUSING THE AIRCRAFT TO CARTWHEEL. THE AIRCRAFT CAME TO REST APPROXIMATELY 1500 FEET FROM THE THRESHOLD AND APPROXIMATELY 100 YARDS TO THE RIGHT OF RUNWAY 20. CDR WEATHER AT 2053Z HAD WIND DIRECTION OF 180 @ 19 KNOTS GUSTING TO 23 KNOTS, CLEAR WITH 9 MILES VISIBILITY. THE PILOT AND HIS PASSENGER WERE NOT INJURED AND THE AIRCRAFT WAS DESTROYED.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CHI07CA223](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CHI07CA223), Jul 20, 2007: Bush Caddy USA LSA (N714Q), Chadron, NE, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain control of the aircraft during landing. A contributing factor was the gusty, crosswind condition.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
