## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) THE PILOT AIRMAN ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ ENCOUNTERED UNEXPECTED AERIAL DOWNDRAFTS, WHICH LED TO AN OFF FIELD GLIDER LANDING, 4 MILES FROM THE INTENDED AIRFIELD. DURING LANDING, THE PILOT AIRMAN ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ PULLED NOSE UP TO AVOID IMPACTING ROCKS ON THE GROUND. THIS LED TO AN AIRCRAFT STALL AND SUBSEQUENT HARD LANDING AS WELL AS SIGNIFICANT AIRCRAFT STRUCTURAL DAMAGE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CHI07CA233](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CHI07CA233), Jul 20, 2007: Schweizer SGS 1-35C (N135EX), Northfield, MN, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain adequate airspeed, which resulted in a stall during the off-airport landing. A factor contributing to the accident was the dirt/rock pile.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
