## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) DURING LANDING ROLLOUT, PILOT CLAIMS BRAKES GRABBED/LOCKED AND AIRCRAFT NOSED OVER ONTO ITS BACK. NO INJURIES, NO FIRE. (-23 AMENDMENT) THE PILOT STATED THAT HE PERFORMED A NORMAL LANDING AND WAS ON THE ROLL OUT WHEN HE APPLIED BRAKES. THE RIGHT BRAKE LOCKED AND CAUSED THE PILOT ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ TO LOSE CONTROL AND THE AIRCRAFT FLIPPED ONTO ITS BACK. I CONTACTED AIR REPAIR IN CLEVELAND MISSISSIPPI AND ASKED ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ ABOUT PROBLEMS ASSOCIATED WITH THE STEARMAN AIRCRAFT THAT HAVE HAYES BRAKES. HE INDICATED THAT THOSE BRAKES WITH MODERATE WEAR HAD A TENDENCY TO GRAB AND LOCK UP. HE WENT ON TO SAY THAT THERE HAS BEEN A HISTORY OF PROBLEMS WITH THE STEARMAN BRAKE SYSTEM. ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ AN AIRWORTHINESS INSPECTOR INSPECTED THE DISASSEMBLED BRAKES AND NOTED MODERATE WEAR ON THE BRAKE SHOES AND AREAS ON THE SHOES THAT WERE GLOSSED OVER WITH BRAKE DUST AND DIRT. ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ THE PILOT'S ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ PERFORMANCE AS DESCRIBED TO ME DOES NOT WARRANT A REEXAMINATION OF HIS PILOT CERTIFICATE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB SEA07LA213](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/SEA07LA213), Jul 21, 2007: Boeing A-75 (N56551), Spokane, WA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The locking/seizing of a main landing gear brake mechanism during the landing roll.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
