## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON JULY 21, 2007 AT APPROXIMATELY 1600 LOCAL TIME A SCHWEIZER AIRCRAFT MODEL 1-26E GLIDER LANDED SHORT OF RUNWAY 34 AT 4NY8 (HARRIS HILL, NY). THE AIRCRAFT CONTACTED THE TREE RIDGE LINE ABOUT 1/4 MILE FROM THE RUNWAY. THE STUDENT PILOT STATED THAT HE LOST ALTITUDE DUE TO A RAPID SINK RATE. THE AIRCRAFT DESCENDED THRU THE TREES AND IMPACTED THE GROUND ON THE BOTTOM OF THE FUSELAGE BELLY. THE PILOT WAS EXAMINED BY THE EMT THAT ARRIVED AND HE SUSTAINED NO INJURIES. THE AIRCRAFT WAS SUBSTANTIALLY DAMAGED AND WILL PROBABLY BE DESTROYED.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB MIA07CA125](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/MIA07CA125), Jul 21, 2007: Schweizer SGS 1-26E (N2768H), Big Flats, NY, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's misjudged distance/altitude during approach resulting in collision with trees and the ground.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
