## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) THE HELICOPTER WAS APPROACHING SMALL LAKE WITH A 150 FT. LOG LINE AND BUCKET ATTACHED TO ITS BELLY. DURING APPROACH, THE PILOT BELIEVED HE WAS ENCOUNTERING SETTLING WITH POWER AND EXECUTED A 180 DEGREE TURN TO RECOVER. DURING THE TURN, THE BUCKET HAD SETTLED INTO THE WATER, CAUSING IT TO FILL AND INCREASE THE WEIGHT ON THE LINE, UNKNOWN TO THE PILOT. CONTINUING THE TURN, THE LINE BECAME FULLY EXTENDED, CAUSING THE HELICOPTER TO EXPERIENCE DYNAMIC ROLLOVER AND LOSS OF CONTROL, CONTACTING THE TERRAIN ON ITS RIGHT SIDE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB SEA07TA214](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/SEA07TA214), Jul 26, 2007: Bell 214ST (N724HT), McCall, ID, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's inadequate planned approach that led to settling with power. Contributing to the accident was the external load becoming snagged in the water, and the high density altitude.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
