## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) STUDENT PILOT CLAIMS THAT ANOTHER AIRCRAFT WAS TAKING OFF WHILE HE WAS LANDING. PILOT STATED THAT HE TOOK ACTION BY RETRACTING HIS LANDING GEARS AND ATTEMPTED TO BELLY LAND THE AIRCRAFT SO HE WOULD NOT STRIKE THE OTHER AIRCRAFT. EVIDENCE SHOWS THAT THE LANDING GEAR WAS NOT RETRACTED WHEN IMPACT OCCURRED. PILOT COMPETENCY IS OF GREAT CONCERN, STUDENT PILOT AND MEDICAL CERTIFICATE IS EXPIRED.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB LAX07CA237](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/LAX07CA237), Jul 28, 2007: Beech C35 (N8973A), Redlands, CA, substantial damage. Probable cause: the pilot's failure to maintain an adequate airspeed, which resulted in a stall.

## Other reports on N8973A (1)

Matched to the same aircraft by N-number and date.

- [Incident 19781112019539I](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19781112019539I), Nov 12, 1978: Beech C35BEECH (N8973A), Hemet, CA, Minor damage. Forced landing in field after engine quit. One fuel tank was empty.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
